3 strategies for dealing with an unhappy Fiverr buyer

Courtesy of one of the black hat forums, we have a report from a novice Fiverr seller named aegroeg. She set up a Fiverr gig to produce a custom music beat for $5. She didn’t promote this gig in any way.

Time passed … she forgot all about the gig … then months later she receives an order. The buyer wanted a 90s hip hop beat. It took her about an hour to create one but the buyer rejected it.

Then she sent him three songs from her archive but the buyer refused those as well. She concocted another beat, taking more time than previously, but that one wasn’t what he wanted, either.

She says, “I’m not one to toot my own horn but I know for a fact that the product I produced was better quality than the competition which I bought in the summer to see the standard. I now understand why so many have given up on Fiverr.” She deleted her Fiverr account.

What could she have done to avoid this outcome?

It’s true that some people are never satisfied and they can drive you crazy. So it’s best to be specific about revisions in your gig description. Limit it to one revision. This puts the buyer on notice that he’d better be pretty darn specific about what he wants.

You should also be very specific about what you’re offering and perhaps more importantly, what you’re not offering. Gig descriptions can now be 1200 characters, so use ‘em all. Try to think of every possible scenario. It may help to have a friend look at the gig description before the gig goes live.

If all else fails and you end up with a sorehead buyer, let Fiverr support know. In situations like this they tend to auto-refund the buyer but if they get enough reports of bad buyer behavior they may implement a buyer block. eBay has had buyer blocks for many years — it’s high time Fiverr did, too.

Fiverr can be a great source of supplemental or even primary income but it’s not for everyone. Still, there are many ways to make money on the Internet and they’re spelled out in Make Money From Home Library- 3 book boxed set .

  1. Would someone mind checking out my gig description and seeing if it is good? I enjoyed this article and think it is spot on but not sure if my description is “descriptive” enough. My link is http://fiverr.com/spencersiegel/design-you-a-modern-business-website-with-hosting-and-a-subdomain-name

We liked your video, very professional. :-)

Here are the questions we would have about this gig:

      1. Many of these I’ll-build-a-site-for-you gigs have links (in the footer, for instance) that cannot be removed. Does yours?

      2. How would we update this website later on? Is it possible for us to do that or do you have site updating gigs?

      3. More of a comment than a question: You’ll want to make sure your buyer understands what a subdomain is.

      Good luck!
